All ages can benefit from therapy. Our therapy staff is experienced at working with both adults and young people, and our patients have covered the whole age spectrum.

Our patients have received therapy for many different diagnoses, including neurological disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injury, hypertonicity, Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis, brain injuries, and hypotonicity; congenital disorders, including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, torticollis; all orthopedic surgeries, injuries, and musculoskeletal disorders, including fractures, fusions and replacements, sprains/strains, osteoporosis, arthritis, tendonitis, low back pain, amputations, and bursitis; and pre/post surgical care and education.

Physical Therapy

You're in the best hands at Colonial Vista Therapy. Our physical therapists provide the following services on an inpatient or outpatient basis:

Skilled training for patient, family, and caregivers to improve ambulation skills, functional mobility, flexibility, balance, and strength
Mobility training, including assessing, obtaining, and training in the safe use of devices such as canes, wheelchairs, prosthetics, walkers, orthotics, and exercise aids
Ultrasound, phonophoresis, iontophoresis, electrical stimulation, heat/cold therapy

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy uses functional activity as a basis for rehabilitation and learning new ways to regain independence in Activities of Daily Living. ADLs range from basic activities - self-feeding, toileting, home management, dressing, and meal preparation - to hobbies such as painting or playing the piano.

Our skilled full-time occupational therapy staff help patients regain function due to disease or injury - and have received special training in hand and shoulder injuries and dysfunctions, as well as the rehabilitation of neurological impairments. Occupational therapy services include:

ADL re-training
Joint protection and energy conservation training
Community re-entry
Edema management
Caregiver training
Upper extremity therapeutic exercise and activity

Splinting design and fabrication

Aquatic Therapy

Our innovative aquatic therapy program is administered by our physical therapists and a physical therapist assistant - with an Aquatic Certification through the Aquatic Therapy and Rehab Institute.

Designed by our therapists especially for our community, the 12 x 20-foot therapy pool ranges from 3.5 to 7 feet in depth and is kept at 91° F. Resistive water jets accommodate a variety of patients. Aquatic therapy advantages:

Allows patients to begin treatment sooner than standard land-based programs, often resulting in a shorter rehabilitation time
Decreases weight-bearing environment from normal 50% to non-weight-bearing
Increases rate of strengthening, since water is 11 times more dense than air
Reduces stress on joints due to decreased gravity, helping to increase tolerance to therapy
Increases coordination and balance
Increases circulation and flexibility
Controls edema with high pressure water massage
Facilitates bone density and tensile strength of tendons

Speech and Language Pathology

Our highly skilled staff helps patients with cognitive disorders such as the inability to comprehend or reason, memory loss, and loss of judgment; communication disorders, such as difficulty expressing oneself, understanding others, or finding the right word; and swallowing disorders, including coughing or choking at meals, loss of motor control necessary for chewing, delayed swallow reflex, and aspiration of food.

We also provide information, support, and training for caregivers.
